About the Center

The Center for Applied Practice, Teaching, and Research was born out of a clear need: to apply research on educational practice to real life, and capture the impact on programs, classrooms, educators, and students.

In the past three decades, there has been no shortage of research on learning outcomes; collectively, we know that supported, inspired teachers are more likely to remain committed to their field, and we know that responsive, communal learning environments support positive learning environments for students. Combined, we know that student learning outcomes are better - so why is it so rare to see these theories in action, even as the teacher shortage worsens and our students need our support more than ever?

Our aim is to infuse program design, professional learning, and data systems with an approach rooted in social-emotional well-being.
